LEWISBURG MAN DIED IN ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE CRASH
A Lewisburg man was killed Wednesday in an all-terrain vehicle crash in Buffalo Township, Union County. Shawn W. Loud, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the accident occurred at 6:32 a.m., according to State Police at Milton. Police said Loud was traveling east on Black Run Road and struck a utility pole as he entered the westbound travel lane and went off the roadway. According to SUN Gazette, Loud was ejected from the ATV, according to state police. The Union County Coroner pronounced Loud dead at the scene.
COVID REPORTED IN LEWISBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT
A second COVID case has been reported in the Lewisburg Area School District since the start of the new school year last week. Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Polinchock says the district Thursday learned of a positive case with a staff member at Linntown Elementary. According to SUN Gazette, the other COVID case was reported last week on the first day of classes, with a Kelly Elementary teacher tested positive for the virus, forcing other teachers to quarantine and assigning reading and math specialists to substitute in affected classrooms.
GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES
A Watsontown mother accused of causing brain damage to her 21-month-old daughter by leaving her in a hot car in 2018 was found guilty on all charges yesterday.A Northumberland County jury of nine women and three men found Tonia Lee Sones, guilty of three felony counts of aggravated assault and three misdemeanor counts of simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment. According to the Daily Item, the jury deliberated for less than an hour. President Judge Charles Saylor ordered a pre-sentence investigation with the sentencing to be scheduled within 90 days. Sones, who has been free on bail since 2018, will remain free until sentencing. The girl is now in legal custody of her maternal grandmother Tina Sones. The girl, who turned five on Aug. 23, has never fully recovered from her injuries, having cognitive and developmental disabilities.
AMERICAN AIRLINES LAST FLIGHTS IN SEPTEMBER
American Airlines flies its last plane out of Williamsport next month, but Williamsport Regional Airport Director Richard Howell remains hopeful for commercial flights to return, especially after he has recently met with United, Sky West, Southern Airways, Express, Contour Airlines, Sun Country, Cape Air, Frontier and Allegiant, according to SUN Gazette. “We are definitely not going to have something by Oct 1,” Howell remarked. “Maybe later that month.”
LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP SCHOOL BOARD MASKING MANDATES
Following comments and concerns from parents and community members on both sides of the issue. The Loyalsock Township School Board voted 5-3 to make masks mandatory for students returning this fall to in-person learning. Next board meeting is in Sept, when this topic will be revisited, according to SUN Gazette.
NEW BUCKNELL BUILDING OPENS FOR USE THIS WEEK
Holmes Hall is home of the newest addition to Bucknell University … Freeman College of Management and Department of Art & Art History, opening this month for classes, the 78,500-square-foot facility sits at the corner of Coleman Hall Drive and South Campus Drive. The building’s namesake, Trustee Steve Holmes ’79, an accounting major at Bucknell, he took nearly enough art history courses to earn a minor, offering a broad foundation and career as a leader in the travel and resorts industry, according to a media outlet. “The world needs more broad thinkers, and I think Bucknell produces broad thinkers,” Holmes said upon the building’s naming.
ACCIDENT BRINGS ABOUT CHARGES FOR CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING
A Lock Haven resident’s vehicle ended up on its roof, following an accident on E. Main Street in Lock Haven. According to police, Amanda Selts will be cited for cell phone use on Wednesday evening, as she was traveling in the 100 block of E. Main Street and swiped a vehicle driven by Kayla Stine of Lock Haven. According to therecordonline.com, there were no injuries.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health said yesterday there were 3,333 additional positive cases of COVID-19, Clinton County saw six new cases, Centre County reported 28 new cases, Lycoming County has 31 new cases, Columbia 9, Northumberland 33, Snyder 5, Union 7 new COVID cases listed yesterday, according to therecordonline.com.

2021 MUNCY LAWN PARTY
The 2021 37th Muncy Lawn Party has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns, according to an announcement by UPMC. SUN Gazette reported the UPMC Lawn Party Committee and UPMC Muncy attributed the decision to the recent increase in risk of potential exposure of COVID-19. UPMC Muncy Auxiliary intended to use the proceeds from this year’s event to purchase new patient recliners for the emergency department and short-stay rehabilitation unit.
HEROIN DEATH BRINGS CHARGES TO CITY MAN
A city man has been locked up on felony charges stemming from the death of a woman who died allegedly from injecting heroin he gave her according to state police. Daquan Alford has been charged with drug delivery resulting in the death of the woman, who was known as the confidential informant. Police report the woman was found dead in a bedroom at a home in Montgomery in May 1. According to SUN Gazette, Alford was arrested in New Jersey, denied bail and ordered to the Lycoming County Prison.
