PENNDOT ROAD CLOSURE
In Lycoming County Route 973 between Dutch Hill Road and Stony Gap Road in Anthony Township has been reported as closed due to flooding or downed trees and utilities. According to PennDOT, updates will be reported as the morning continues. PennDOT cautions motorists to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.
FORGERY LANDS WILLIAMSPORT MOTHER IN JAIL
Money accounts that were set up for her children were tapped into by a Williamsport woman, according to an affidavit filed by the Williamsport Bureau of Police. According to the report, Sonia Campana, was charged with two felony counts of forgery for allegedly removing more than $28,000 from her children’s investment accounts and she was charged and given $15,000 unsecured bail, which was posted on Aug. 17. Campana is scheduled to appear before Judge Aaron Biichle (BEAK LEE) on Aug. 29.
RETAIL THEFT CHARGES
Coins, stolen from the Sheetz for the Kids Donation charity collection container were used in an attempt to purchase a 25 oz. can of Natty Daddy Lager at the Sheetz in Loyalsock Township, on August 11. According to northcentralpa.com, Darryl Beck of Williamsport was charged with a non-traffic citation through District Court 29-3-02, for retail theft.
LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES
Today the Little League World Series is back, but with some notable changes. According to Brian McClintock, senior director of communications for Little League International, the main objective is to host a World Series event in a venue in the safest possible manner, while trying to maintain a bit of the structure of the international event to value it’s historic style. In addition to canceling fan attendance at the Series, Little League is insistent on keeping players inside their team “pods,” or predefined groups of people.
CLASSIC GAME ON SUNDAY
Today the Little League World Series is back, but with some notable changes. Although there are no fans in the stands and players are limited to team pods, the Classic game remains an exciting part of the tradition. The Classic game, scheduled for Sunday, will see the Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels travel to Williamsport. Throughout the afternoon, the two teams will watch the World Series games. That evening, the Little League teams will travel to Bowman Field to watch the Angels and Indians square off.
THE ANNAPOLIS GROUP RECOGNIZES LYCOMING COLLEGE

WILLIAMSPORT AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT MASKING GUIDELINES
Parents in the Williamsport Area School District can send their children to school without masks this year, but if a student is exposed to someone in the classroom infected with COVID, they will have to quarantine, according to Dr. Timothy S. Bowers, superintendent. Dr. Richard Poole, director of student services, said that current CDC recommendations state that if a student is masked in the classroom, if they’re sitting next to a student that tests positive for COVID, they will not have to quarantine. Currently anyone who is exposed to someone with the virus must quarantine either for 10 days and then return to school on day 11 or they can choose to be tested on the on the fifth day of quarantine and return on day eight if the test is negative.
WILLIAMSPORT MUNICIPAL WATER AND SANITARY LOOKING TO REPLACE TWO MILES OF WATER MAINS
The Williamsport Municipal Water and Sanitary Authority recently approved $2 million of contract work to replace two miles of water mains throughout the city and region. It is also looking for existing or relocating industrial and commercial customers to sell water taken from nearby reservoirs holding millions of gallons of fresh water in Mosquito Valley. The construction work is expected to begin next week and continue through the fall, and the sale of the water is able to be done because the authority is using only a third of its available reservoir capacity, said Michael Miller, the executive director of the authority. The goal is to improve these underground delivery systems.
BOXING IN THE PARK
The Love Unlimited Ministries brick building along West Fourth Street is Williamsport’s School for Self Defense, founded by John Powell. The school is part of an amazing event on Saturday, Aug. 28, with “Boxing in the Park” at Elm Park. Powell and his program are not only excited at the opportunity to put on a unique event in Williamsport at Elm Park, but want it to become an annual event. Cooley is the program’s head boxing coach. He won nationals, was a four-time Gold Glove winner and went 118-8 in his career as an amateur fighting under Joe Frazier’s gym. The event kicks off with the first bout at 3 p.m.
