MEAT PROCESSING PLANT FINED AFTER FATAL ACCIDENT
OSHA has fined a local meat processing company about 50 thousand dollars for safety violations discovered after an employee was killed in a meat grinder accident there. Authorities  say 11 serious violations were found at Economy Storage Locker Company in Pennsdale after the death of employee Jill Greninger on April 22nd of this year.  PennLive dot com reports there were no witnesses to Greninger’s death but among the OSHA violations reported after the accident were employees operating the mixer with the lid open, exposed rotating blades and other safety hazards.  No word on whether the company is planning an appeal to the civil penalties for the violations.

WOMAN SENTENCED FOR ARMED ROBBERY
A Lycoming County judge sentenced a woman who robbed a Williamsport business at knifepoint last January to 29 months to 5 years in state prison, acknowledging her remorse for the crime.  Judge Marc Lovecchio sentenced 23 year old Jahnasia Wiggs for first degree felony robbery of money from Cupps Vaccuum Service and a Williamsport Turkey Hill, and according to the Sun Gazette, stated the crime was related to the defendants struggle with addiction.  Wiggs is currently in Lycoming County Prison awaiting transfer to a state correctional Insitutiuon

POLICE REGIONALIZATION DECISIONS COMING SOON
There was a public meeting last night to discuss police regionalization and the potential changes in police coverage in the DuBoistown Borough. The discussion mainly focused on the potential of disbanding the borough’s current police department and paying South Williamsport for 24/7 coverage.  According to the Sun Gazette, law enforcement officials shared different police coverage scenarios detailing budget differences and tax rates at the meeting.  Residents in attendance indicated they would prefer to not merge with South Williamsport.  Action on the matter will take place at the November 7th Duboistown Borough Council meeting.

NEW VOTING MACHINE COSTS TO BE REIMBURSED
Northumberland County’s expenses for the new voting machines will be reimbursed by state and federal sources.  Northumberland County Commissioner Sam Schiccatano told WKOK that county commissioners will vote on which new machines to order by the end of the year to qualify for state refunds.   A federal grant is also possible that would bring a total reimbursement of 700 thousand dollars of the one million the machines cost.  The voting machine purchase agreement will be in place by December of this year.

FORMER ATTORNEY FACES JAIL FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
A former Lycoming County attorney faces 3 to 8 years in prison after pleading guilty to 11 counts of second degree counts of child pornography in July of 2019.   North Central PA dot com reports that Police searched 66 year old James R. Protasio Cogan Station’s home in 2018 and found over 500 explicit images, but he doesn’t qualify as a sexually violent predator.  Protasio is free on 99 thousand dollars unsecured bail.  Hi sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 20.

NEW WINDOWS FOR WILLIAMSPORT HIGH-RISE
The Lycoming County Housing Authority met yesterday and approved new windows for part of the William Hepburn high-rise apartment complex.  The Sun Gazette reports that Interstate Building Materials, Inc , the contractor who installed the first round of windows on the lower floors were able to charge about 190 thousand dollars less due to their experience on the project.  The work is estimated to cost about 417 thousand dollars, take just over a month and start in December.

COMMISSIONERS APPROVE FUNDS FOR STEP PROGRAMS
Lycoming County Commissioners approved funding for several outreach agencies that support residents in Lycoming County.  The commissioners voted on several agreements with STEP agencies for urgent housing needs for local individuals and families.  Commmissioners also lowered the annual cost by over 2 thousand dollars for the renewed contract with Northpointe/Equivant for software used in the county prison and adult probation evaluation programs.  Their next meeting is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.

SURVEY WORK ON SNYDER COUNTY ROADS NEXT WEEK
Motorists who travel Routes 11/15 and 61 in Snyder County are advised there will be rolling lane restrictions next week in Monroe Township and Shamokin Dam for survey work.  The project will take place between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m each day starting Tuesday, October 29 – the work will be northbound and southbound from Commerce Lane to Lori Lane. With more work there through the week.Motorists should be alert for survey workers and shadow vehicles daily.
