FATAL ACCIDENT ALONG ROUTE 6
A man from Renovo died after an accident last weekend along Route 6 near Old Stage Coach Road. According to North Central PA dot com, police say 69 year old David L. Stahl was driving west in his 2019 Ford Fiesta around 8:15pm Saturday night and crossed into the eastbound lane, hitting the guard rail and a rock embankment. Emergency responders say they freed Stahl from the wreck and before he could be transported via helicopter, passed away at the scene. An investigation showed that Stahl may have had a medical emergency at the time of the wreck.
ALLEGED SUNBURY DRUG DEALER FLUSHES GALLON BAG OF METH
A man from Sunbury is in custody after police say he sold methamphetamine to an undercover informant from his home on several occasions. According to North Central PA dot com, when police served a search warrant for 34 year old Thomas Curtis Krist on January 23rd, he allegedly flushed a gallon ziplock bag of meth down the toilet and later refused to be taken into custody. Upon searching Krist’s home, police found the drug and that three young children were living with him. Krist was charged with four felony counts, including possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, endangering the welfare of children and more. He is in Northumberland County Prison in lieu of 150 thousand dollars bail.
STATE REP WANTS TO REDESIGN PA’S FLAG
A Pennsylvania State representative wants to redesign the current Pennsylvania state flag that was established by the Legislature in 1907. According to the Pittsburg Patch, Joe Webster, a Democrat from Montgomery County asked for support from colleagues saying in a memo that our state flag is hard to recognize and identify. He says a panel should be introduced that would study the history of the state flag, solicit design submissions for a new flag and recommend changes.
WATERWAY CONSERVATION OFFICERS BEING SOUGHT BY THE STATE
Applications are being accepted for the 27th class of Waterways Conservation Officers with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. According to the State Civil Service Commission, WCOs are law enforcement officers trained in fisheries conservation and watercraft safety to protect, conserve and enhance PA’s aquatic resources at various training sites in the state. This class of trainees is expected to report for training later this year and graduate in the summer of 2026. The online application period is open through February 3rd . MAN ARRESTED FOR THREATENING WITH SUSPECTED FIREARM
A man from Montgomery was arrested Sunday morning after witnesses say he was standing outside a local store with a machine gun pointing it at cars. According to the Sun Gazette, state police were called to the scene around 9:30am and they determined David J Pierce on Montgomery was holding gun parts, including a 30-round magazine for a rifle, but had no mechanism to discharge the bullets. Police allege that Pierce appeared to be under the influence of controlled substances, and said he claimed he was making a movie and hadn’t pointed the gun at anyone. Pierce was arraigned and charged with reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, simple assault and more. He was jailed in lieu of 10 thousand dollars bail.
POLICE TAKE MAN WITH 4 BENCH WARRANTS INTO CUSTODY
A fugitive Muncy Creek Township man was taken into custody January 9th at his home on four bench warrants that had been issued for him. According to the Sun Gazette, 52 year old Wayne Robert Jacobs was found by police hiding in a bathroom in his home at the 28 hundred block of Lime Bluff Road. Police discovered Jacobs had possession of an illegal firearm and was also had a vial of methamphetamine in the home. Jacobs was jailed following his arraignment and was recommitted to prison in lieu of 50 thousand dollars bail.
DONATIONS GIVEN FOR SUNBURY TO BUY BUILDING
A 50 thousand dollar donation was approved by the Sunbury City Council and Mayor Josh Brosious so that the city fire department can purchase the former Rescue Hose Company Fire Department building on Edison Avenue. According to the Daily Item, the purchase is for storage of fire apparatus and maybe later to add on to the existing structure as a home for the new department. In addition to storing fire equipment, the building will also be used for training and meetings.
ICE FESTIVAL IN LEWISBURG THIS WEEKEND
Lewisburg is getting ready for their 21st annual Heart of Lewisburg Ice Festival coming up on February 7th. According to the News Item, the three day weekend is full of ice carving, community events and family-friendly fun, with up to 10,000 people expected to be in town for the festival being held in the downtown area. Some sculptures that are planned to be at the event include a giant throne carved in front of Hufnagle Park, and other carvings in honor of the Bucknell Bison. Get info at lewisburgpa.com.
