WOMAN HAS FATAL MEDICAL EPISODE WHILE DRIVING
The identity of the victim in a car crash and medical emergency from the weekend in Old Lycoming Township has been released. According to the Sun Gazette, police say 74 year old Linda Heitsenrether had a fatal medical episode while driving along Spring Grove Road near Mill Lane and crashed into a tree at about 2pm. First responders attempted life saving measures when they arrived on the scene, and transported her to UPMC Williamsport. Heitsenrether was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 2:30pm
KELLY TOWNSHIP MAN ARRESTED ASSAUTING MINORS
A 26 year old man from Kelly Township is facing charges of an alleged indecent assault against two minors in July of 2023. According to the Daily Item, police investigated several incidents involving Caleb Reedy and two 17 year old girls, and found evidence that Reedy had inappropriate contact with the girls from December of 2022 through July of 2023. He was charged with multiple sexual assault related felonies. He was previously jailed in in Union County Prison in lieu of 100 thousand dollars bail.
BREATHING EQUIPMENT FOR CITY FIREFIGHTERS
With the proceeds from the recent sale of old engine 1 and funds from capital projects, Williamsport Bureau of Fire will purchase life-saving equipment for the firefighters going forward. According to the Sun Gazette, Chief Sam Aungst presented a resolution to City Council authorizing an agreement between the department and MES, the company providing 93 thousand dollars-worth of self-contained breathing apparatus for ten fire fighters for now. The company plans to use funds from the Community Development Block Grant funds to purchase a second round of equipment later this year. The expected lifespan for the equipment purchases is 15 to 20 years.
BOOKS BY MAIL PROGRAM AT JV BROWN LIBRARY
Handicapped or homebound individuals who are patrons of the James V Brown Library in Lycoming County now have the option to access materials through the mail if they are unable to physically visit the facility. According to North Central PA dot com, the library’s Books by Mail program can provide books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, and even video games delivered in a reusable, pre-paid mail pouch for no charge. BRADFORD COUNTY MAN CUTS ANKLE MONITOR, ARRESTED
A man from Bradford County has been recommitted to prison after cutting off his ankle monitor and escaping to Luzerne County. According to state police at Towanda, 43 year old Kristopher R. Johnson, was originally sentenced to a treatment court program after being tried for two car thefts and a DUI related suspension in 2023, but now he has been resentenced to state prison to 2 to 4 years along with the requirement to pay 1,750 dollars in restitution for damage he did to the ankle monitor.
TEEN AND TWO PASSENGERS SUFFER INJURIES IN WRECK
A teen driver from Moshannon suffered serious injuries after a fiery crash last week on Valley View Road, east of North Fillmore Road in Benner Township. According to the Lock Haven Express, police say 19 year old Brenda Heverly who had three teen passengers in her 2017 Kia Forte, told police she swerved to avoid a deer at about 8pm and went off the left hand side of the roadway. State police at Rockview say Heverly’s vehicle struck a tree and rolled into a wooded area before it was engulfed in flames. Heverly was transported by life flight to UPMC Williamsport. Two passengers had moderate injuries and one was uninjured in the crash. Heverly was charged with driving at an unsafe speed. Police reported that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
POWER SCHOOL SITE WAS BREACHED IN LEWISBURG
A cybersecurity breach has been reported in the Lewisburg Area School District. According to school administrators the breach involves PowerSchool, the student information system, and authorities say personal data of students and educators may be exposed. PowerSchool partnered with Experian to provide free identity protection and credit monitoring and will send emails with details in the coming weeks for those who are impacted. RIVER VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR THIS SUMMER
Submissions are now being accepted for the first annual River Valley Film Festival that was previously thwarted from COVID precautions. According to North Central PA dot com, the festival, coming up this July 17th through 20th will be held at AMC Williamsport 11 with a submission deadline of April 30th – some extended deadlines are available. The RVFF organization plans to hold future free screenings of films across the city with donation collections for local Little League teams, other local nonprofits, and community groups. Caitlin Clark’s No. 22 jersey was hoisted into the rafters Sunday afternoon at Iowa inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. David Letterman was in the crowd to celebrate.
