EVICTED MAN DESTROYS APARTMENT
A man who is on probation in Delaware County, who was previously evicted from a Newberry neighborhood home was arraigned and jailed Friday for a felony count of criminal mischief after destroying the apartment before he left. According to the Sun Gazette, police say Gregory Shateese Brown, is a homeless man in the Philly area, and allegedly texted his landlord at the time, threatening to cause damage if he didn’t get his deposit back. When the owner entered the Diamond Street dwelling, he encountered a torn-up apartment totaling approximately 27 thousand dollars-worth of damage. Brown was incarcerated in lieu of 50 thousand dollars bail.
ROUTE 87 ACCIDENT VICTIM IDENTIFIED
The young man killed in the Plunkett’s Creek accident early last Wednesday has been identified by the Lycoming County deputy coroner. According to the Sun Gazette, 21 year-old Jake Wallace of Montoursville died of blunt force trauma at the scene, after his vehicle left Route 87 about 12:45 am and struck a tree. Geisinger Medical Center officials in Danville say Wallace’s passenger, 23 year old Alexia Locricchio of Montoursville was hospitalized in fair condition from injuries she sustained from the crash.
TOWNSHIPS MERGE IN CLINTON COUNTY
The first official township change in over a hundred and fifty years took place this month in Clinton County when East Keating Township became a part of Noyes Township. According to North Central PA dot com, after the final meeting on the subject in October in Renovo, the general election November 5th brought about the change with the majority voting for the merger. In the 2020 census East Keating Township showed nine people living in the township. The merger brings better maintenance and more funding to the area that was previously East Keating, and more voters and income from the gas wells to Noyes.
PENNSYLVANIA BANK TO CLOSE LOCAL BRANCHES
Fifteen locations of Fulton Bank in Pennsylvania are planning to close, including branches in Sunbury, Williamsport, Bellefonte, and Berwick. According to a press release by the bank, changing customer banking habits, including more people using online and digital services is one reason for the closures. 201 Fulton Bank financial centers provide services through its website, mobile app, and Customer Care Center. Seven local branches including Danville, Lewisburg, Hummels Wharf, Middleburg, Mount Pleasant Mills, Bloomsburg, and Beaver Springs are expected to stay open.
MAN JAILED FOR THREATENING WIFE WITH A GUN
A man from Sunbury was jailed last week after allegedly pointing a gun at his wife and threatening her. According to North Central PA dot com, police were investigating an issue with 71 year-old David Lee King, who was being accused of throwing out the paychecks of his stepdaughter that had been mailed to his address. After police met King, he agreed to come to the police station. The accuser says after police left; King pulled a gun on his wife. Police learned about the incident later that day and took him into custody and charged him with a felony count of aggravated assault, misdemeanor possession of an instrument of crime and more. His preliminary hearing is February 4th.
SCAMMERS CLAIMS THOUSANDS FROM ELDERLY WOMAN
Another elderly person from Lycoming County has been scammed out of thousands of dollars after being told to purchase gift cards to remedy a fake financial issue with their bank. According to State Police at Montoursville, the 71 year-old victim received an email December 18th which claimed her account had fraudulent charges on it from PayPal. When the woman called the number provided, she was advised to buy a certain amount of gift cards to fix the problem, the amount of which continued to go up. The suspects stole about 16 thousand dollars from the woman. Officials say banks and professional agencies never ask for payments in gift cards.
STATE LAWMAKER WANTS A NEW PA FLAG DESIGN
Pennsylvania has successfully competed in a multi-state decision that will now bring an Italian Pasta manufacturing facility to Gregg Township. According to Governor Josh Shapiro’s announcement, Il Pastaio a global leader in gnocchi production, is planning a 71,300-square-foot facility at the Great Stream Commons business park after receiving a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) through the Manufacturing Tax Credit Program. This projectis expected to inject more than $12.5 million into the local economy and create at least 74 new, full-time jobs in Union County.
TOBBOGGAN SLIDE OPENING THIS WEEKEND
The work is underway in Eaglesmere for the toboggan slide – and it’s scheduled to reopen after 11 years this Friday. According to Sullivan County officials, volunteers worked this weekend hauling ice blocks to the slide on Lake Avenue. The slide is a fundraiser for the Eagles Mere Volunteer Fire Company as they work to raise money for a new tanker.
