PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT ON I-180 THANKSGIVING MORNING
A pedestrian from Loyalsock Township died early Thanksgiving morning after being hit by two cars on I-180 in Williamsport. According to the Sun Gazette, the Lycoming County Coroner named 21 year old Daniel Patrick Tripp as the victim who police believed to be intoxicated around 2:41am when he walked out into the westbound lane of the interstate and was struck by one car. He was hit by a second car directly after between the Hepburn and Maynard Street exits. Tripp was transported to UPMC Williamsport where he was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma.
LOCK HAVEN MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE
A 40 year old Lock Haven man is facing charges for rape of a mentally disabled person after several incidents allegedly took place in his home on East Hillside Road, allegedly with his wife’s knowledge. According to North Central PA dot com, William Alfred Willits III and his wife Fay told the victim to keep quiet before she told officials from the Children’s Advocacy Center in Bellefonte about the assaults that started in August when the woman was staying at their home. Willits faces two counts of rape, sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault and is free on $40,000 unsecured bail with a bail hearing coming up December 9th.
NEW POLICE CHIEF IN SELINSGROVE
The Selinsgrove Borough Council swore in their new police chief last night at their meeting. According to the Daily Item, Selinsgrove Police Chief Francis Petrovich now takes the helm after Shanee Mitchell resigned in October after two years. It was a standing room only crowd in attendance for Chief Petrovich’s promotion which included the presence of all of the department’s officers and staff, area judges, Northumberland County District Attorney Michael O’Donnell and first responders from the region. Petrovich was hired as a full-time police officer in Selinsgrove in 2012 and promoted to sergeant last year.
ADMISSION BOOKLETS AVAILABLE FOR 2025 CLINTON COUNTY FAIR
Admission booklets and parking passes for next year’s Clinton County Fair are available now at special prices for 2025. According to the Lock Haven Express, the 8-day admission pass booklets will offer one pass for each day of the Fair for a discounted 20 dollars each, and it is 10 dollars for the weekly parking pass booklets. The public can purchase the passes by mailing a check to the Clinton County Fair Association at PO Box 174 in Mackeyville with no limit on the number of the discounted passes ordered before the December 31st deadline. TWO ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING, ONE FOR FIREARMS CHARGES
Two men from Philadelphia, a 21 year old and a teenager, were arrested last Tuesday at the Maynard Street Sheetz for allegedly shoplifting from the store. According to Williamsport Bureau of Police, during a search of 17 year-old and Damier Sams-Glover, officers report that they uncovered a firearm that had previously been reported stolen. Sams-Glover was arrested on receiving stolen property charges along with firearms not to be carried without a license and more. He is being held at Lycoming County Prison on 75 thousand dollars bail. The teenager was taken to juvenile probation.
NORRY COMMISSIONERS ASK FOR TAX HEARING
Northumberland County Judge Hugh Jones will hear from Northumberland County Commissioners this month who have petitioned the court to raise taxes for property owners in 2025 and increase the millage rate from 25 to 30 mills. According to the Daily Item, the hearing on December 12th will address raising taxes by 20 percent after insurance costs in the county went up more than 2 million dollars along with higher costs for utilities and other operating costs. County assessors say taxes for property owners could go up from $35 to $150 per household in 2025. The increase would generate about $3.5 million in funds for the county which has not raised taxes in 4 years. The county must pass a budget on or before Dec. 31.
SNYDER COUNTY REST STOP CLOSED FOR WINTER
Penn DOT has announced the closure of a Snyder County rest stop as of Monday this week. According to the Department, the primitive roadside rest area on Routes 11/15 at McKees Half Falls in Chapman Township, is now closed for the season. Crews will reopen the rest area in the spring of 2025.
WWII DISPLAY IN MILTON THIS WEEKEND
A World War II Christmas exhibit is on display this weekend at the Cameron House of the Milton Historical Society 5340 State Route 405 and will also feature tours of the house. According to the News Item, the unique exhibit is provided by Chuck Chatham of Lewisburg and is curated to span basically the entire World War II years—mid-30s to late 40s, showing how families made do despite restrictions, rations, and limited availability of metal. The display will also feature a rare victory star that lit up and showed support for our servicemen. The museum will be open this Saturday and Sunday from 1 til 4 each day.
