YOUNG PARENTS CHARGED WITH ABUSE IN RALSTON

The McIntyre Township parents of a three week old infant who allegedly sustained injuries consistent with abuse, have been arrested this week with felony endangering the welfare of a child and misdemeanors of obstructing the investigation of a child abuse charges.  According to the Sun Gazette, doctors say parents 21 year old Danzel Marquise Black, 18 year old and Naomi Jesse Vroman, gave reports to authorities about injuries they say were sustained by their infant that didn’t match with the physical condition of the baby during an investigation in April.  After the investigation, both parents were charged and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000.  The baby is in protective care at this time.

ROUTE 6 IN TROY TO CLOSE FOR REPAIRS

A tractor trailer hauling an empty steel tank struck the steel truss bridge at Route 6 that goes over Sugar Creek in Tory Township, Bradford County on Wednesday and the roadway is set to remain closed through August. According to PennDOT, Route 6 is closed between Leona Road and Mud Creek Road and a detour will be in place using Leona Road, Springfield Road, and Route 14 for the summer.  Crews are first doing in-depth inspections of the structure for safety and will then create a repair plan so that the bridge can reopen to traffic.

A MONTOUR COUNTY REST AREA CLOSED

The restrooms at the westbound I-80 rest areas in Montour County remain closed today.  According to PennDOT, there is a water issue in the entire area causing the water to be shut off temporarily.  Parking is still open for motorists to use, but they should be advised of the closure and that crews will reopen the areas once the water problem is resolved.

BENTON VOLUNTEERS RESCUE HORSE, RETURN TO FAIR

The Benton Fire Company volunteers who were setting up for the Benton’s Fireman’s Carnival in Columbia county Wednesday, were called away from the carnival grounds for a horse rescue nearby.  According to WNEP, the firefighters were called to the technical rescue of a several-100 pound horse that had fallen into a ditch and was on its side, unable to get up. Fire officials say they used straps a skid steer and help from a neighboring farmer to rescue the horse who is healthy and back with his owner.  The Benton Fireman’s carnival continues through tomorrow.

POLICE SEEKING A SUSPECT WHO SHOT INTO A HOME

Police are investigating a bullet that struck a home on Northview Lane in Union Township on June 2nd after it penetrated the wall to an interior room.  According to state police at Montoursville,  troopers recovered a full-metal jacket bullet round from an ottoman that had been struck inside after piercing the siding of the victim’s home in Union County.  If you have information about the shooting, contact PSP Milton at 570-524-2662.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT VICTIM IDENTIFIED

A man on a motorcycle was injured in Shamokin Wednesday in a two vehicle crash at about 5:30pm.  According to the News Item, the unnamed rider was found off the bike and near the curb at Liberty and Sunbury streets.  The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was nearby on Liberty Street with front end damage – that driver was uninjured.  Shamokin police say the motorcyclist, was conscious, but with a leg injury, was transported to a medical facility by  EMS from Elysburg Ambulance.  Following a police investigation, the roadway reopened at about 6:15pm.

FLAG DAY CEREMONY TONIGHT AT PENN COLLEGE

The public is invited to the Flag Day ceremony at Penn College tonight, the site of the Anthony DiSalvo Flags Across America Celebration.  Scouts and guests should gather at 6:30pm for a short flag march around the campus grounds and will meet up at 7pm for the ceremony in the parking lot of the Davie Jane Gilmour Center.  As DiSalvo served this community in his life, he loved the flag and advocated for the college to obtain the 60 by 30 foot Old Glory on the Penn College campus that can be seen almost anywhere within in the city of Williamsport.

LAUREL FESTIVAL WEEKEND

The weeklong Laurel Festival continues through this Sunday, concluding with the 10:30am Union Church Service on The Green.  According to the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, the 82nd  annual festival’s final weekend will feature the annual Arts & Crafts Fair will be on the Green today and Saturday, with 85 artisans and 25 vendors will be on the International Street of Foods today and tomorrow as well.
