ACCOMPLICE TO DOUBLE HOMICIDE WILL FACE TRIAL
The accomplice to Troy Bailey Sr, in the double homicide of Alisha Seese and Ronald Dailey Jr in January, will also face trial after a preliminary hearing this week in distict court. According to the Sun Gazette, 43 year old Sandy Perez is facing criminal conspiracy in kidnapping, receiving stolen property, obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence, making false reports and hindering an investigation after she allegedly was in contact with Bailey around the time of the murders and allegedly took the murder weapon to dispose of it. Police say for a few weeks Perez denied having contact with Bailey about the murders and denied disposing of a bag with a gun in it. She remains held without bail for now. In another development this week, District Attorney Tom Marino said the prosecution will be seeking the death penalty against Bailey.
SHAMOKIN STABBING VICTIM ALSO CHARGED
Police charged the 24 year old victim of the stabbing by a 15 year old in Shamokin last Thursday night, for his role in the fight that began at the 100 block of West Independence Street. According to the News Item, police say Deandre Marqui Copeland assaulted the teen during a fight that started around 9pm. Copeland was charged with misdemeanors of simple assault and disorderly conduct. The teen had previously been charged with felony aggravated assault simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, through Northumberland County Juvenile Court Services.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS COULD BE EXAMPT FROM STATE TAX
Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard may be exempt from paying some state income tax after Pennsylvania lawmakers proposed legislation this week. According to WHTM, Army veteran and Republican Representative, Dane Watro of Schuylkill and Luzerne Counties put forth a bill that would exempt all income derived from PA National Guard service from the state’s personal income tax which is just over 3 percent.
SPRING CLEAN UP SET FOR CITY
Williamsport has announced dates for the spring clean-up this year. According to the Sun Gazette, the city’s public works department is naming April 15 through May 10 for pick ups of loose yard waste including; limbs, leaf plant and shrub clippings. NO bagged waste and no grass clippings will be collected. Pick ups will be on main streets only since the side alleys cannot accommodate the size of the pick-up equipment. Clean up of limbs and clippings will be done one time only on each street within the set dates.
NO CAUSE DETERMINED FOR CITY FIRE SUNDAY
Williamsport fire investigators have not been able to determine a cause of the two-alarm fire that displaced five people after the blaze broke out at the 1200 block of West Fourth Street. According to the Sun Gazette, fire officials say there was smoke and water damage throught the four-unit apartment, but the fire itself was contained to a rear second-floor bedroom rented by two people, one, the woman rescued from a second floor window of the home, and the other a man treated at UPMC WWilliamsport for smoke inhalation after he escaped the blaze Sunday night. No fire damage estimate has been determined.
PROBATION FOR WOMAN WHO ABANDONED DOG
A 24 year old Cogan Station woman who abandoned a German Shepherd outside a Loyalsock Township business in February of 2023 in sub-freezing conditions, has been sentenced to probation. According to the Sun Gazette, Miranda Waldman pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals in January after she admitted to leaving the dog behind who was malnourished and locked in a crate with a bag of food on top of it. Advocates for the dog, renamed Lucky, say he was rescued and given a much better life with food and shelter. Waldman is prohibited from owning animals during her 12 month probation, must perform 100 hours of community service and pay the Lycoming SPCA over 600 dollars in restitution.
WORK CONTINUES ON BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Box culvert replacement work continues this week in on Route 54 in Ralpho Township, Northumberland County. According to PennDOT, a contractor from Kulpmont will relocate sewer lines and install new storm drainage as part of the bridge replacement project through Friday, weather permitting from 6am til 5pm with flaggers on the scene. The work area is located on Route 54 just south of Route 487 between Hillside Avenue and Quarry Road – with this phase of the work expected to be complete by Memorial Day.
SANTA HUT TO BE REFURBISHED
Downtown Lock Haven Inc, is seeking to partner with students in Construction Trades at Keystone Central School District to refurbish the Santa Hut. According to the News Item, a go fund me account has been established for the project that will update the hut that has been languishing in disrepair after being outside for so many years. A press release from DLH says students will be replacing the door, windows, soffit, trim, painting and checking all electric.
