WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY THIS AFTERNOON
Watch for icy conditions this afternoon to continue into Tuesday morning with a winter weather advisory in place for Lycoming County and other portions of Central PA. The National weather service in State college is calling for snow accumulations of two to five inches and ice, which will impact travel and cause slippery road conditions. MILTON MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE OF A CHILD
A West Milton man has been arrested for the rape of a young girl who had attended sleepovers at his home with other children. According to North Central PA dot com, 32-year-old Jeffrey Kemmerer was accused after the child who was between seven and eight at the time, told her parents that the assaults had occurred on several occasions beginning in June of 2021. Kemmerer has a history of these offenses, convicted of possession of child pornography in 2010 in Bethlehem, then charged for not reporting to the state police for the sex offender registry. Kemmerer has this time been charged with three counts of felony rape of a child and is now in Union County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is March 23rd.
SMALL FIRE COMPANIES ELIGIBLE FOR GRANTS
Local Volunteer fire companies have grant funding available to them to help battle potential wildfires with equipment and training. According to the DCNR, fire companies in a rural area or community with fewer than 10,000 residents are eligible and will be selected based vulnerability and adequacy of existing fire protection. Applications are due online by 4pm on Thursday May 11th at dcnr.pa.gov. Local firefighting forces may receive grants up to $12,500 with priority placed on projects that include the purchase of wildfire suppression equipment and protective clothing.
SINGERS FOR ANTHEM BEING SOUGHT
National Anthem performers are being sought by the Williamsport Crosscutters for their MLB Draft League 2023 season. According to the crosscutters.com website, individuals and groups are encouraged to submit an application online that should include an under 90 second performance of the anthem a capella. Applications are due before May 12th for the season that begins June 1 through September 2nd.
CONVICTED MURDERER’S APPEAL FOR NEW TRIAL DENIED
Calling Timothy Alva Neff’s claims of self-defense, completely without merit, the Pennsylvania Superior Court denied the appeal and request for a new trial for the murder of his sister-in-law, Agnes Neff in May of 2019. Sixty year old, Neff, formerly of Lamar Township, was sentenced to 20-40 years in state prison in 2020 when he entered a guilty plea to third degree murder. Later that year, Neff filed a post-conviction petition which was denied and this is now the final decision upon Neff’s appeal from that. Neff’s sentence has him in jail until November of 2060.
AT-LARGE SUSPECT BROUGHT BACK TO WILLIAMSPORT
One of two men suspected of a shooting at the 900 block of Park Avenue in Williamsport in September of 2021 has been apprehended by Williamsport police with assistance from the USMS Fugitive Task Force and Philadelphia Police Department. According to North Central PA dot com, Aliek Carr was taken into custody, charged with multiple felonies and extradited to Williamsport last week. Carr was denied bail. According to police, the investigation points to the other suspect in the shooting, Ravon Blow-Enty who is now being held on unrelated charges in Delaware, and will soon be served a warrant for first-degree aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and other charges.
FISHING LICENSE PRICES MAY GO UP
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is poised to increase fishing license fees in the commonwealth. According to fishandboat.com the next meeting will address the fee increase and is coming up Wednesday, March 1 at 10 am. Pennsylvania’s fishing and boating programs are paid for by anglers and boaters with the largest source of revenue for the Fish Fund from fishing license and permit fees. VOLLEYBALL APPROVED AT LEWISBURG
The Lewisburg area school approved an interscholastic high school girls volleyball team Thursday this week after numerous requests and proposals to start a Lewisburg team over the past 9 years. According to the Director of Athletics and Select Student Services Christopher Long, start up costs for the team come to around 15 thousand dollars for uniforms and equipment made possible by the Green Dragon Foundation. When the team is implemented, Lewisburg will be the eighth team in the conference.
