SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CITY STABBING
City police have arrested a 17 year old from Nisbet in connection with the stabbing that occurred Tuesday evening at Rural Avenue and Elmira Streets in Williamsport. According to the Sun Gazette, Damiyr Lee reportedly stabbed 18 year-old Caden Wilson twice in the back after an argument in Brandon Park. Lee fled the scene while Wilson was taken by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to the hospital. Lee will be tried as an adult and is in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 75 thousand dollars bail.
FATAL ACCIDENT SHUT DOWN LANES OF ROUTE 15 SOUTH
Traffic was down to one lane on Route 15 South between Lewisburg and Winfield yesterday before noon due to fatal accident involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer. According to media outlets, Buffalo Valley Regional Police reported that 81 year-old Louis Betz, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred at the intersection at Rt. 15 and Beagle Club Road when witnesses say Betz pulled out in front of the truck as it was traveling along Rt. 15 and was pushed down the roadway after the impact. The tractor trailer originally blocked both southbound lanes and the car was on the west embankment of the Union County area of the interstate. The driver of the truck was not injured and no charges have been filed.
SHAMOKIN MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
A Shamokin man is in custody after police say he committed aggravated assault at a home on Franklin Street on March 31st. According to North Central PA dot com, 27 year-old Travis Perkins entered the residence with a baseball bat and a knife and assaulted a man and attempted to assault a woman there. Police say Perkins also hit dogs on the scene with the bat before he was seen yelling in the street which prompted police to arrive. Perkins has been charged with second degree assault charges and is at Northumberland County Jail in lieu of 10 thousand dollars bail.
COMMISSIONERS EARMARK COVID RELIEF MONEY
The Lycoming County Commissioners announced they will meet with members of the agricultural & forestry and early childhood education sectors next week to determine financial needs in a response effort due to the pandemic shut down and COVID-19. According to the Sun Gazette, the commissioners allocated up to $10 million of the American Rescue Plan Act which is provided to support economic stabilization for households and businesses. They will meet next Tuesday at 2:30pm for the early childhood group and at 6pm for the farming and forestry industries in the Commissioners’ Board Room, 1st floor Executive Plaza at 330 Pine Street.
INDUSTRIAL FIRE LAST NIGHT
There was a boiler room fire at a business on Reach road in Williamsport last night. According to the Sun Gazette, about 8:25pm smoke was reported in the building at the Danzer Veneer America plant and Williamsport firefighters responded with Montoursville assisting. Witnesses say it took about 30 minutes to put the fire out. No word on damages.
FORMER OFFICER ARRESTED FOR DUI
A former Berwick Police Sergeant has been charged with two counts of DUI and other charges after he hit a utility pole and fled the scene while drunk. According to North Central PA dot com, witnesses saw 49 year old Michael A. Monico leave a local bar, hit a pole on North Warren Street and then drive to the Berwick Elks lodge where police were called about the incident. Monico took a breath test at the Berwick police station later and his Blood alcohol was measured at .204. Monico retired from the department in 2018.
RECYCLING PLANT PROPOSED IN POINT TOWNSHIP
750 new jobs could be coming to Point Township in Northumberland County. According to media outlets, Encina, a Houston, Texas based company is planning to build a state of the art plastics recycling facility, potentially injecting more than $2.1 billion into local and state economies over the next 5 years. The proposed plant for fall of 2024, would be built near the Strong Industries plant along Route 11, but needs a few state agencies to review their proposals before permits are issued. There will be an open house introducing the project at the American Legion Post 44 building in Northumberland this May 11th from 5-8pm.
THREE LOCATIONS FOR LITTER CLEAN UP
Along with Keep America Beautiful and Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, volunteers from the Montour Area Recreation Commission are gathering tomorrow for a litter clean up day at three locations. Barring severe weather,groups can gather at Montour Preserve Visitor’s Center parking lot by 8:50 am for litter cleanup and collecting sticks from the garden and lawn, Hess recreation Area at Hess Field pavilion by 8:50 am or to help in Washington Borough, meet at DeLong Hall, 1129 3rd St., Danville, by 7:50am.Volunteers 18 and older should wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts that can get dirty and wet. Boots are suggested, open-toed shoes should not be worn. Please bring work gloves if you have them. Refreshments will be provided after work at noon. GOLF – Tiger Woods shot 1-under 71 in the first round at Augusta National Yesterday. He was 3 shots behind Cameron Smith after finishing his round. It was Woods’ first tournament round since his serious car accident outside Los Angeles last February 23, 2021. He hadn’t played in an official event since November 2020, when he tied for 38th at the Masters, which was played later that year due to the COVID Smith after finishing his round.
